Copyediting &
Translation Services

Accurate spelling and grammar are fundamental when communicating with your clients.

"Having a thorough knowledge of the local language is essential when writing to your foreign clients."

I have more than 20 years’ experience of proofreading and subediting copy across both print and online media. My passion for working in partnership with UK businesses, in order to produce well-written copy, underpinned by precise spelling and grammar, remains strong.

Moreover, with a First Class Honours degree in French from the University of Bristol, I am able to assist any UK-based companies seeking to enter French-speaking markets via the translation of sales and marketing materials or other corporate documentation into French.

I have extensive experience of copyediting both B2B and B2C communications across a variety of business areas, including Automotive, Banking and Finance, Commodities, Consumer Goods, Country Risk, Defence and Security, Energy, Telecoms and Tourism.

Nothing sees more than the human eye

Many organisations use automated software to check the spelling and grammar within their corporate communications.

However, these programmes cannot always identify the correct context of a word within a sentence (e.g. telling ‘they’re’ from ‘their’ or ‘weather’ from ‘whether’).

The words may be spelt correctly, but their meaning may be entirely wrong in that context.

Moreover, companies do not always have the resources to maintain dedicated copyeditors on staff.

This is where I can help. Please contact me today to see how I can help your business produce clear, concise and compelling copy.

Recognising the faux amis

Online translation tools can help with the translation of one of two words in isolation. However, they are not always the best way of translating a multi-page document, for example.

I am a fluent French speaker adept at picking out the faux amis between French and English. I also speak good level Spanish.
I have the ear for language that allows me to know when to stick rigidly to the sense of the original text and when some degree of flexibility is allowed in translation.

Among my past translation work (French-English) is a five-month project involving the proof-reading, copy-editing and re-drafting of some 170 investment fund documents for the Paris head office of French investment bank Société Générale.
